I've been reading through this thread and I've yet to see any rationale for forking Lazarus into a new IDE. As a new IDE based on a Lazarus fork is going to result in duplicated effort from now on, wouldn't it be better to contribute changes back to Lazarus? Is there something the CT IDE will do that the Lazarus team will never include?

@noelc

Maybe PilotLogic has a different idea regarding the IDE. It seems they are going much faster then the Lazarus team (I don't mean bad). At the moment I'm a delphi user and I've been following this project for quite a while now. I've installed their latest version and I have to say .. I'm impressed, really impressed. For me the Delphi IDE is getting too expensive.
What I don't understand is how some people are so negative about this project. I've been googling a lot, I find this quite strange. For me this project opens oppertunities. CrossBuild, nice option. I also would take me much time to setup Lazarus with all these packages. The update manager. This is a really good idea. I don't want to be busy with installing things, I just want to program.

Therefore, thank you very much PilotLogic.

Kind Regards,
Limagito

I still think that an IDE builder tool is missing, over the IDE.

Meaning:

Inside or outside CodeTyphon Center , kinda a stringtableS tabs window with group checkmarks and individual checkmarks on Packages you deliver.
- 2D Graphics
- 3D Grahics ... etc for groups to be checked/unchecked

- Internet
- lNet pack
- Indy pack ... etc for subcategories to be checked/unchecked

As CodeTyphon is getting bigger and bigger, we need that to make a "MyIDE" between the SmallIDE and the BigIDE

BECAUSE !!! :

I program with 4 friends and they spend more time to find the right component they need than programming

At that point, i suppose that any Move in that direction would be welcome by numerous people around the world

TY Sir

You can make this
from "Typhon IDE-> Packages-> Install & uninstall Packagers" dialog, select your "custom" Packages scenario
-Export (or Import) the list of your "custom" Packages scenario
-Rebuild your "custom" IDE

Now
The "Wing-man(s)" Programmer(s) have only to Import the list of your "custom" Packages scenario with the same dialog and
re-build IDE

My Programming team use this procedure

We want to keep CT Center simple
-Minimum packages IDE (SmallIDE) and
-Maximum packages IDE (BigIDE)

"Array or Grid Programming Teams" with CT is our next vision... :woohoo:

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't being negative. I very much appreciate what CodeTyphon team have done, as I appreciate what the Lazarus team have delivered. I was just wondering what the rationale there is for the forking of Lazarus into something new and potentially incompatible. Why not contribute any changes back into Lazarus? So far I've yet to see any answer to these questions.

How about enchanced delphi/lazarus project importer?
ATM even lazarus->CT conversion has issues with pl_* packages. And it's wa-a-ay ahead of Delphi support.
But that's not all. Dependencies are not solved for me at the rate of approx. 80%. I still have to add needed units to dependencies list manually.
It'll be "OK" if simple addition of smth like "uses XXX;" will result in automatic search of reqired package and it's addition in the list.

Thank You.
